What

Sova is an EVM-compatible blockchain designed to enhance Bitcoin's programmability. By introducing network validator-level bindings to Bitcoin Core and precompile-based VM extensions, it enables smart contract interactions with BTC, Runes, and Ordinals. Leveraging Ethereum mainnet's pooled security, Sova provides a novel infrastructure for executing contracts and interacting with Bitcoin-native assets beyond traditional value transfer.

Sova is a new blockchain designed to add programmability to Bitcoin. While Bitcoin secures the most global economic value of any blockchain, applications and utility beyond value storage and exchange via $BTC are limited. This is because the Bitcoin network itself does not host a programmable virtual machine capable of executing smart contracts. Sova introduces a new EVM-compatible blockchain with a set of precompile-based VM extensions, combined with validator-level bindings to Bitcoin Core, that enables a smart contract execution environment to interact with Bitcoin and its native assets, such as BTC, Runes and Ordinals. Using pooled security from Ethereum mainnet, the network will quickly bootstrap its economic security to the requisite level for enforcing honest, user-initiated operation on Bitcoin and interaction with Bitcoin-native assets.

Bitcoin stands as the world's most secure digital asset, yet its potential remains constrained. Despite securing unprecedented global economic value, Bitcoin's utility is largely limited to storage and basic transfer of value. This fundamental limitation stems from Bitcoin's lack of a programmable virtual machine. Sova aims to address this through two key objectives:

1. Add programmability to Bitcoin, making it easy to build advanced applications with native BTC.

2. Have the simplest UX, without giving up custody bridging or wrapping BTC, or requiring new upgrades to Bitcoin.
